The Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation’s Wine, Women and Fishing concluded this year’s event on Sunday out of Southside Marina in Rudee Inlet.

The event is a ladies-only billfish tournament that has contributed more than $1 million to breast cancer research at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

The team on Mercenaria took first place and also won the Top Lady, with Kari Rapine capturing the title.

The event had 26 teams registered, but some opted to stay in port because of rough conditions brought on my Tropical Storm Ernesto. Crews that decided to brave the elements caught one blue marlin, six white marlin and one sailfish.

The Cheryl Anne came in second, followed by Sniper in third.

More information is pending.
