Capt. John Savage had tried to put the day out of his mind as best he could. Near-death experiences will do that to you.
But a down point in his life, when he questioned just about everything, brought that day in 1998 back clear as day.
So at the urging of several friends and family members, her decided to tell the story in a book and is now hoping to raise enough money to turn it into an audio book.
The project is nearing its end, but you check out Savage’s teaser of “Lost in the Stream” here.
Let’s not give too much away, but here’s a quick summation.
Savage was working as a mate on the Anhinga out of Key West on April 13 and he and the captain had the vessel about 100 miles southwest of southern Florida on the way to Cancun.
The boat was hit by a rouge wave, the bow buried and in about 30 seconds, it was gone.
“It was the ultimate nightmare for anyone at sea … death by drowning or eaten by sharks,” Savage said. “The rescue was a miracle.”
Savage doesn’t just write about the rescue, but more the way the experience molded who he is today.
When the book is released, I’m going to read it from front to back and get back with all of you.
