After the first day of fishing in the 2nd annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament, his team on Catch 23 continues to have a good run.
The team finished second in last week’s White Marlin Open on the 82-foot Bayliss ported in Jupiter, Fla., and owned by the NBA Hall of Famer.
Jordan is not listed as an angler this week, but probably is with the team.
Catch 23 so far sits in first place with 750 points on 10 released white marlin that cocauld be worth $452,315 based on several entry levels.
As of 8 p.m. on the opening day, there had been 147 fish caught – 128 white marlin, 3 blue marlin, 1 sailfish, 2 wahoo and 13 dolphin. No entries in the tuna division were brought to the scales.
Steve Ash on the Strokin’ leads the dolphin division with a 49.4-pounder, while Brandon Creech on the Big Trouble leads for wahoo with a 49.3 pounder.
This year’s event features 88 registered teams vying for a total purse of $1.3 million.
Last year’s winner – Pelican – is captained by Arch Bracher and sits in 25th place with 150 points on two white marlin. Bracher’s brother, Pat Bracher, is serving as the team’s mate.
