The Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament week is off and running with the finish of Sunday’s 35th annual Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies’ Only event.

The Alice Kelly has come before the regular tournament for years and kicks off one of the mid-Atlantic’s largest billftshing tournaments.

This year featured 155 teams and a total of 930 anglers.

The lineup caught and released a total of 88 billfish.

Team Fender Bender captured the overall title in the women’s event with Capt. Colin Oxnard running show.

The dolphin division was won by Epic with Capt. Eddie Hoffman.

Next up this week is the 41st annual PCBT featuring 84 teams and a total purse of approximately $1,260,000. The action on the water started early this morning and continues through Friday – with a Saturday farewell breakfast.

Tuna was won by by Salvation with Capt. Jamin Simmons.

Bobojo with Capt. Patrick Byrd took the wahoo category.

And Eric captain Eddie Hoffman won the dolphin division.

Some 88 billfish were caught during the event.

The 37th annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament runs from Aug. 11-24 and sets the stage for the upcoming Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament the following week – two of the biggest and most important in the mid-Atlantic region.

The 21st annual VBBT runs Aug. 21-24.

Tournaments to the south and north of these two events tend to get more publicity in larger communities, but none home their hometown like these two.
Stay in touch, as we’ll continue to sum up the results.
